DARWIN - END OF THE JOURNEY JUNE 2014

That's all folks !!

Late Friday afternoon we received the bad news.
My bike had the new Clutch fitted, then they discovered the Gear Box is Stuffed.

End of the road for us. My bike is not repairable, parts have to come from Germany which will take weeks or months.

We will arrange for our bikes to be transported back to Port Macquarie.
We fly out on Tuesday morning.

Darwin NT - Kakadu NP 28th May 2014

Jumping Crocs

Jumping Crocodiles - why not ??
We had heard this was an absolute "must do" in the Territory.

We did "The Original Jumping Crocodile Cruise on the Adelaide River Queen.
There are 3 different ones in the same area and it was a bit difficult to choose.

It was incredible and well worth doing

The crocs don't take long to catch on lunch is here :-

Just a river bank - actually no - home of many crocs - not a good idea to go there !
IMG_7537__1024x683_.jpg

Kites are also fed with meat scraps - the scrabble is scarey - birds everywhere, coming from all directions.

IMG_7584__1024x683_.jpg

And then out came Big Brutus - the biggest one of all.

IMG_7688__1024x683_.jpgIMG_7702__1024x683_.jpgIMG_7708__1024x683_.jpgIMG_7711__1024x683_.jpgIMG_7722__1024x683_.jpgIMG_7737__1024x683_.jpg

Darwin NT - Mindil & Litchfield 25th & 26th May 2014

Markets & Termite Mounds

Yesterday (Saturday) was a big day. 620kms in very hot weather, we arrived at Katherine in the afternoon and went straight to the pool.
Today we rode into Darwin, settled in to the Travelodge and then went to the famous Mindil Markets.

Sunset on Mindil - iconic Darwin scene.

Now the story gets interesting.
I have had a problem with my bike so took it to the BMW dealer to have a look at it.
They diagnosed a clutch problem, parts have been ordered and we are stuck here until they arrive and can be fitted.
Roadside assist have provided us with a car for the time my bike is off the road.

We decided to visit Litchfield National Park in the car.

Wangi falls in Litchfield.

Florence falls - bit of a walk down (132 steps) but worth it.

The Termite Mounds are quite amazing and well worth seeing.

El Questro Station - Our last day in the Kimberley

Today is our last day here and we have one more walk to do - Champagne Springs - Blue Markers uh oh !!

IMG_7222__683x1024_.jpgIMG_7224__1024x683_.jpg

He is a bit difficult to see but in the hump of the tree right in the centre of the photo, on the walking trail is a Dingo dashing off in front of us - bit of a surprise to see him :-

IMG_7236__1024x683_.jpgIMG_7237__683x1024_.jpgIMG_7255__1024x683_.jpg

The combination of Tropical and Gum trees is quite interesting -

IMG_7265__1024x683_.jpg

Have to confess we never went right up to the Springs - warnings that the walk got very difficult from about half way.
We decided to not risk life and limb !!

Crossing the Pentecost with a caravan - they made it across quite easily - slow and steady.

IMG_7271__683x1024_.jpg

El Questro Station is quite unique and nothing like we have ever done before.
A fantastic experience.

Our bungalow from below.

The swimming area below our bungalow.
IMG_7283__1024x683_.jpg

The Steakhouse - very good meals at reasonable prices considering where we are.

Tomorrow we leave for Darwin.

El Questro Station - Explosion Gorge and Brankos lookout

Explosion Gorge and Branko's lookout at Sunset

We decided to do the Explosion Gorge and Brankos lookout Sunset Tour.

Huge Boab tree on the way in.
IMG_6851__1024x683_.jpg

Tackling the Chamberlain River by 4WD is the best way to go.

IMG_6855__1024x683_.jpg
IMG_6860__1024x683_.jpg

Look very closely at this photo - 2 evil little eyes peeping out at us - not a good place to have a swim.

IMG_6867__1024x683_.jpg

The track was very rough - even in a 4WD (glad we are not trying to do this on the bikes)

IMG_6875__1024x683_.jpg

High on the Chamberlain River Bank is the El Questro Homestead - $2700 per night all inclusive.
What a shame we are not millionaires !!!

IMG_6903__1024x683_.jpgIMG_6917__1024x683_.jpgIMG_6943__1024x683_.jpg

Explosion Gorge - cruising quietly along the river was a great way to spend the afternoon :-

Followed by Sunset at Branko's Lookout :-

Back to the Station for dinner and a rest.
